Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is grounded in helping students build confidence through hands-on, process-based learning. As a graduate instructor who has taught Beginning Photography multiple times, I focus on making technical concepts approachable and relevant. Camera functions, exposure, and printing are introduced as tools that support creative intention rather than rigid rules to memorize.
I emphasize learning by doing, designing assignments that encourage experimentation, problem-solving, and reflection. Critiques are structured to be inclusive and supportive, giving students a shared vocabulary to discuss images regardless of prior experience. I prioritize slow looking and clear communication so students learn how to describe what they see before jumping to interpretation.
My goal is to create an accessible classroom environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, learning from mistakes, and developing independence as image-makers.
